Partnerships

Partnerships are essential in helping the Bearing Witness Institute advance its work to combat hate and prejudice by fostering interfaith dialogue and promoting understanding across diverse communities. Through collaboration with religious, educational, and human rights organizations, we create impactful programs and initiatives that inspire change and build a more inclusive world.

The Ansari Institute for Global Engagement with Religion at the University of Notre Dame 

The Rafat and Zoreen Ansari Institute for Global Engagement with Religion is dedicated to studying, learning from, and collaborating with religious communities worldwide. 

A vital part of the University of Notre Dame’s Keough School of Global Affairs, the Ansari Institute embraces wide-ranging work, including research, teaching, outreach, and interaction with religious communities, faith and civic leaders, academics and journalists, and the general public. The Bearing Witness Institute is partnering with the Ansari Institute to develop the Peace by Piece program nationwide.

The Olga Lengyel Institute for Holocaust Studies and Human Rights (TOLI)

TOLI is a global leader of professional development for Holocaust educators.

The Bearing Witness Institute partners with TOLI to offer Holocaust education seminars for Catholic school educators, equipping teachers with the knowledge to educate students on the Holocaust, antisemitism, and contemporary issues. This partnership helps build a nationwide network of teachers who will share with students the importance of promoting, supporting, and advocating for human rights.

Archdiocese of Atlanta

The Archdiocese of Atlanta is a vibrant, diverse, and rapidly growing community with ecclesiastical jurisdiction of the Catholic Church in north and central Georgia. 

The Bearing Witness Institute has received endorsement from Atlanta Archbishop Gregory John Hartmayer, OFM Conv. This support opens doors for collaborations with parishes throughout the Archdiocese of Atlanta as well as with other archdioceses and dioceses across the country.

Society of Mary

The Society of Mary is a religious congregation under pontifical right. The Society of Mary founded Marist School in downtown Atlanta in 1901. 

Through its Society of Mary heritage, Marist School is part of a global network of partner schools that broaden the Bearing Witness Institute’s reach and advance its mission of combating hate. Institute Director Brendan Murphy serves on the Society of Mary’s Commission for Interreligious Dialogue and Reconciliation, which meets monthly and includes priests and educators from around the world. The Commission’s objectives include using education, publishing, and advocacy to promote awareness and understanding among different peoples, cultures, and faith traditions. The Bearing Witness Institute expands upon these objectives by providing opportunities to combat prejudice through education and dialogue with local and national communities.

Am Yisrael Chai and The Daffodil Project

Am Yisrael Chai is a global nonprofit organization that delivers Holocaust education and genocide awareness through signature projects and initiatives. 

The Bearing Witness Institute collaborates with Am Yisrael Chai's Daffodil Project and the Daffodil Dash for educational programming on the Holocaust and the history of antisemitism. This partnership aims to create awareness through action, ensuring that lessons learned from the past prevent future instances of bigotry, prejudice, antisemitism, and genocide.

Georgia Commission on the Holocaust

The Georgia Commission on the Holocaust is a state agency committed to preserving the memory of the Holocaust and promoting public understanding of the history. 

The Bearing Witness Institute partners with the Georgia Commission on the Holocaust to offer summer Holocaust education classes for high school students. Future collaborations will include teacher training for educators in Georgia and beyond, equipping teachers with the knowledge to educate students on the Holocaust, antisemitism, and contemporary issues.

The Breman Museum

The Breman is a cultural center in Atlanta dedicated to Jewish history, culture, and arts with a special emphasis on Georgia and the Holocaust. 

The Bearing Witness Institute collaborates with The Breman to offer summer Holocaust education classes for high school students. Future collaborations will include teacher training in Georgia and beyond, equipping teachers with the knowledge to educate students on the Holocaust, antisemitism, and contemporary issues.

ADL Glass Leadership Institute

Established over 20 years ago, the Glass Leadership Institute (GLI) is the cornerstone leadership development program at ADL. 

Through its education programs, the Bearing Witness Institute helps empower young professionals enrolled in the GLI program to fight antisemitism and hate in their own communities.

 

Peace by Piece Affiliates

Peace by Piece is an interreligious dialogue program established through collaborations among Jewish, Muslim, and Christian communities. 

The original Peace by Piece program was founded in partnership with the Weber School, Mohammed Schools of Atlanta, and Marist School. The Bearing Witness Institute intends to expand the Peace by Piece program by developing new student and adult chapters nationwide to continue fostering mutual understanding and respect among diverse faith communities.

American Council for International Studies (ACIS)

ACIS is a national leader in quality educational travel for middle and high school students and their teachers. 

Bearing Witness Institute has partnered with ACIS for 20 years to organize and execute Bearing Witness student trips at Marist School.  

 

National Center for Civil and Human Rights

The National Center for Civil and Human Rights is a museum and human rights organization in Atlanta that inspires people to tap their own power to change the world around them.

The Bearing Witness Institute is partnering with the National Center for Civil and Human Rights in Atlanta to build a multi-day national conference for Peace by Piece students and faculty advisors. The Center’s extensive work with religious communities, combined with the Bearing Witness Institute’s mission of interfaith dialogue, will create a meaningful experience for students as they learn the importance of respect, collaboration, and understanding across differences.
